Building Blocks - Fundamentals of Unit Planning
Building Blocks - Fundamentals of Unit Planning hot!
Date added: 02/05/2009
What kinds of things do you take into consideration when you plan your lessons?  Do you set short (one lesson) and long (one term) term goals for you and your students?  Do you feel limited in the activities that you can do with your student because of their limited English ability??  Do you feel a lack of direction when planning each lesson?  If any of these questions apply to you, you are not alone.  Planning is the hardest part of teaching because there are so many things that have to be taken into consideration.  In this session we will provide you with some basic tools that can help you start setting goals (if this is something that you struggle with), as well as how to use these tools in order to achieve each goal.  Learning a language is a gradual process and students need the proper tools.  Remember, ``Rome was not built in a day``.

Setting Goals and Clarifying Roles (Peter Collins - RIED, Tokai University)
Setting Goals and Clarifying Roles (Peter Collins - RIED, Tokai University) hot!
Date added: 02/05/2009
Most team teachers – both ALTs and JTLs – have wondered what ‘team teaching’ really means, and how close their own classroom practices come to meeting its goals. Questions we ask include: What roles can and should an ALT play? How do they differ from those of JTLs? And what difference can having two teachers make to our students’ learning potential and processes? In this lecture, Peter will introduce ways to recognize and integrate various aspects of a successful team-taught lesson. He will also share sample lesson plans and teaching materials which have helped team-teachers 1) set more communicative goals, 2) clarify ALT, JTL and student roles, and 3) inspire higher learner motivation in the process.
