About The JET Programme;
The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, which has been running since 1987, is aimed at promoting grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other nations. The number of countries sending participants has risen over the years, as has the number of participants. Since its inception, over 46,000 people, from 55 countries have taken part in the programme.
We have over 120 JETs in Gifu this year, including ALTs who teach in all different levels of schools, CIRs who work in a variety of Government and non-government departments, and SEAs who bring their special sport coaching skills to Gifu.
About Gifu;
Gifu lies at the heart of Japan, and is one of its biggest prefectures. One of the few landlocked prefectures in Japan, Gifu Prefecture shares borders with seven other prefectures: Aichi, Fukui, Ishikawa, Mie, Nagano, Shiga and Toyama. Japan's postal codes all start with a three-digit number, ranging from 001 to 999. How is that last sentence relevant to anything? Well, part of Gifu has the 500 prefix, lending even further proof to its claim to be the center of Japan. Gifu is a geographically diverse prefecture, with mountains in the north, and low land rivers in the south.
About the Site;
This site has been set up to be a centre of information for JETs in Gifu, as well as a resource of teaching materials for team teaching English in Japanese schools. Whilst this site has been made by the Gifu PAs, it owes its inspiration to our brother and sister JETs all the way down south in Okinawa, who have a fantastic site. Thanks for the inspiration guys!
